Marjoram is really similar to Oregano, from the same family no less, however unless you live in the Med you aren't going to be able to grow your own Oregano so Marjoram is a great alternative that provides that same distinctive falvour without having to resort to the dusted dry Oregano that reminds me of school dinners!
Benefits over buying pre-grown?
Pre-grown tubs from the supermarket are forced through an unnaturally fast growing process, the soil is heavily fertilised and then the plants are stuck on a conveyor belt under intense lighting to give you the plant that you find in less than 21 days. The result is a plant that isn’t hardy against different conditions, has very fragile and cramped roots meaning growing any further is nigh on impossible – and its insanely thirsty so pop away for the weekend and it could be game over. We know that with a tiny bit of time you can grow your own plants from scratch and get the added pleasure and flavour that brings.
